Description
Growing plants in plug form is starting to get a lot of traction, and for good reason. Plugs are a very economical way to buy plants, instead of paying $10 to $20 for a plant growing in a 1 or 2 gallon plot, you can buy a plug for $2 or $3 dollars. Yes, they are smaller plants, but like so many things in life, they won’t stay little for long. Which is also what makes growing plugs at the nursery challenging, they will only stay small enough to fit in their cellular trays for a season or two and then they have to bumped up to gallon size pots, and they become more expensive. I am committed to getting this option more widely available while promoting under utilized plants, like sedges!
Think plug sized plants when you want to cover a big area, maybe it’s an at home mini wetland restoration site or a rain garden where need a dozen plants to fill in a spot. It’s nearly instant gratification; en masse on a budget! Fox tail sedge is a hardy clump forming species that grows up to 2 feet tall. It’s quite common growing in wet open areas like road side ditches and wetland meadows. Named for the very distinctive flower head that really looks like a thick foxes tail! Plugs are grown right here at Native Haunts from locally collected seeds.
