Description
As part of my commitment to better represent the genus Carex, may I present the Fox-tail sedge! You probably have seen this charismatic plant growing in open wet meadows or road side ditches (which are great places to go botanizing, by the way!). They grow to about 12″-15″ high and are quite adaptable as to where they will grow, as long as they have at least part sun. They are named for how their flower cluster looks like a foxes tail, which are fully developed by late spring-early summer.
