Description
From the seaside to the mountain tops this tough little plant ekes out a living in the harshest of areas; quite often in that razor thin crack of a ledge or rock, always in full sun, usually in wind-hammered exposed areas. The small leaves have an attractive patent leather luster in a lovely shade of forest green. Happy little white flowers arrive in mid-late spring, typically late May. I suppose this plant qualifies as a ground cover, albeit a sparse one, as it does spread around on adventitious roots searching for a precious bit of soil to lay down a few extra roots in. Three leaved cinquefoil can easily be out competed in more fertile situations, so be sure to remember where you plant them. It makes a precious addition to a full sun rock garden area. These are seed grown plants; their parents living in that “beautiful-place-by-the-sea”, Ogunquit, ME.
