Description
Lustrous patent leather green leaves stay verdant throughout the year, even in the depths of winter. Lives in the deep shade of upland forests, where it is associated with loamy slightly rich soils. Easy to grow in our gardens where it makes an excellent accent plant growing along side our beloved spring ephemerals like blood root, ginger, trillium, trout lily and the like. I most often see it growing with the fronds laying nearly flat to the ground, less often I see the fronds erect, growing perpendicular to the ground.
