Description
Grass-leaved goldenrod is a lot different in its appearance compared to other goldenrods. These differences have earned it it’s own genus, Euthamia, instead of Solidago, like the other goldenrods that we are most familiar with. Grows to be about hip high, full sun, in poor sandy backfilled soils, to slightly richer loamy soils of fields. We usually never see it affiliated with wet areas-it definitely prefers to have dry feet. The leaves have been reduced to the width of your average blade of grass. Crescent butterflies seem to be especially fond of it; they can be observed jockeying for position on the flat tops of these July blooming flowers. This species is not commonly available in the trade and it deserves a spot in your pollinator garden. These plants are grown from seed by Cat Swamp Farm in Unity, NH. They are an up and coming nursery devoted to growing native plants. We are happy to support them on their righteous quest!
