Description

In the wild this lovely species of birch can be found growing along rivers banks, in riparian forests, and lake shores. It taps out just south of Maine, its most northerly naturally occurring extant is next door in New Hampshire, along the Merrimack River. Despite its affinity towards wet areas in the wild, it is exceptionally tolerant of dry conditions in our landscapes. It is widely planted in parking lots, urban areas, and other decidedly non-wetland habitats. This birch is almost always seen with multiple stems, each bearing shaggy exfoliating cinnamon and cream colored bark. Many varieties have been selected from this species, the ones we offer are non-varietal, straight species.
